The Perth Mint began its Australian Gold Kangaroo Series in 1986, originally released under the name Australian Gold Nugget. By 1990, the kangaroo became the permanent focus of the design, giving the series its enduring identity. In 2016, Perth Mint established a new Silver Kangaroo BU coin for annual release alongside the gold bullion coins. Today, 2026 1 oz Australian Silver Kangaroo Coins are available at Bullion Mart.

The obverse of the 2026 Australian Silver Kangaroo features the portrait of King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne. The King is shown in left-profile relief without a crown, representing the first-generation effigy of His Majesty on Australian coins.

On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Silver Kangaroo Coin, a kangaroo is shown in left-profile relief bounding through the design with a sunburst design around the edge. This imagery emphasizes the kangaroo’s remarkable adaptation for efficient movement across long distances in Australia’s varied terrain.
